ARTICLES

An article is a word used to modify a noun, which is a person, place, object, or idea. Articles are used to point out or refer to nouns.

There are two different types of articles: definite articles and indefinite articles.

 A) Indefinite article: It is always Singular. ‘A’ and ‘An’ are used. The article a / an is used when we don't specify the things or people we are talking about.

For example:

a)   I took a pen from box.

b)   I saw a bird.

c)   An apple a day keeps doctor away.

It is unusual to use a/an for uncountable nouns.
           You can't say “I drank a water”.

A/an can be used only with countable nouns.

1.      I brought a piece of cake.

2.      I saw a book.

3.      I got a medal.

B) Definite article : It is for Singular  and plural. ‘The’ is used.

For example:

    a)   The moon revolve around the earth.

    b)   The boy is playing here.

No article:

1. Do not use an article with countries, states, counties or provinces, lakes and mountains except when the country is a collection of states such as "The Mumbai".

·        He lives in Mumbai.

·        They live in Bangalore.

·        They climbed Mountain.

2. We do not normally use an article with plurals and uncountable nouns to talk about things in general.

  • He writes notebooks.
  • She likes comedy books.
  • Do you like sweet dishes?
