Two compound words

 When two words are used together to yield a new meaning, a compound is formed.

Closed-Form Compound Word Examples : These words are formed when two fully independent different words are combined to create a new word.

For example : highlight, understanding, overcoat, bandage, basketball, anybody, outside, cannot, anybody, become, bedbug, bookcase, blacklist,  houseboat, housecoat, household, housekeeper, housetop, housewife,   housework, however, lifelong, lifesaver, lifetime, lifework, friendship, blackboard, limelight, limestone, moonlight, moonshine, moonwalk, moreover, motherhood, motorcycle, nearby, newfound,   newsboy, playback, playboy, playground, playhouse, playmate, playthings, popcorn.

  

Open Compound Word Examples : These words are formed when two words remain separate  on the page but are used together to create a new idea with a specific meaning. 

For example : real estate, high school, living room, post office, half moon, half sister, dining room, living room, new moon, real estate, coffee table, paperback book, racing car, street bike, jogging shoes, school bus, ice cream. 

 

Hyphenated Compound Word Examples : These words are formed when two separate words are joined together by hyphen. 

For example : father-in-law, twenty-one, short-term, up-to-date, mother-in-law, Self-reproach, Self - Confidence.

Reported speech

  In Direct speech, words are quoted directly with inverted commas. Words are inside the inverted commas.   Example- Minal said, “ I am studying”. In Indirect speech, words are quoted without inverted commas. Example – Minal said that she was studying . TIPS FOR EXPANSION OF AN IDEA: Expansion means of Idea means you have to understand the proverb or statement given. You have to describe it, tell the meaning and idea given in the particular text. You have to extend a proverb or a statement given. Step 1: Understand the proverb. Most proverbs are symbolic. It should be analysed and interpreted.
