Adjective clause

 

A subordinate clause that does the work of an Adjective is known as an ADJECTIVE CLAUSE. 
Adjective clauses always begin with a Relative Pronoun. 
a) To identify the Adjective clause ask the question (that, where, whose, which, why, who, which, whom, when).  
b) It will have a subject and a verb. 
c) It will tell us something about the noun.
  

1. There has to be a chairman who conducts the  debate.
Ans There has to be a chairman – Main clause
         who conducts the debate
– Subordinate Adjective clause  


2. The choice of the media depends on the person who uses them.    
Ans.
 The choice of the media depends on the person – Main clause  
        who uses them
- Subordinate Adjective clause     

 

3. They gave him the valuable articles that were in their custody.
Ans.
 They gave him the valuable articles – Main clause
        that were in their custody
. - Subordinate Adjective clause


4. It is the fault of Dinesh who slapped him.  
Ans.
 It is the fault of Dinesh – Main clause.
        who slapped him
– Subordinate Adjective clause


5. The car which they bought was white.
Ans. The car
 
was white – Main clause.

        which they bought  – Subordinate Adjective clause      


6. We threw away the mobile whose screen were broken.

Ans. We threw away the mobile – Main clause.
         whose screen were broken
– Subordinate Adjective clause


 7. The book that you brought is small.                                                                      
Ans.
The book is small – Main clause.
         that you brought
– Subordinate Adjective clause
 


8. It was the plan of caption who thought of a plan to obtain the victory.
Ans. It was the plan of caption - main clause
        who thought of a plan to obtain the victory - subordinate adjective clause.


9. There were a few villagers who combed the beach everyday for egg shells. 
Ans
There were a few villagers - Main Clause 
   who combed the beach every day for egg shells - subordinate adjective clause



10. The boy whom you teach is my friend. 
Ans 
The boy 
is my friend – Main clause 

       whom you teach - Subordinate adjective clause’.


11. I kept them quiet for ten minutes which was more than what you could do. 
Ans
Main clause - I kept them quiet for ten minutes 
       Subordinate adjective clause - which was more than what you could do
 



12. These are the moments that  define us.
Ans. These are the moments - main clause
         
that define us - subordinate adjective clause.           



13. She knew the family whose land we bought.
Ans. She knew the family - main clause
         whose land we bought - subordinate adjective clause.           


14. Enough has been said about this great warrior who conquered the world.
Ans. Enough has been said about this great warrior  - main clause
         who conquered the world - subordinate adjective clause.           



15. The nerves that controlled his muscles were shutting down.

        Ans The nerves were shutting down  – Main clause 
               that controlled his muscles - Subordinate adjective clause’.
