Speech Writing

A Speech is a formal talk that a person delivers to his audience. In order to write a perfect speech, you need to know your audience, and the purpose or topic, we must have a through knowledge of the topic and some research, and excellent organizational skills. 

When a speech is delivered, it must have the capacity to attract the attention of the audience with a proper choice of words and examples. You should not deviate from the main subject. You must keep in mind that it is a speech and you need to begin the draft with addressing the audience and involving them.

A perfect speech must consist of:-

1) OPENING LINE: It includes salutations (Greet your audience), introduction Who are you ?, why are are you giving this speech ?  Introduction part of the speech is the most important part, and it should be short. Do not give a separate title for the speech. 

2) BODY: It is the main part of your writing piece. The main topic should be taken up as quickly as possible. Speak only about the subject. Always begin with your strongest point. You can put the weaker ones in between and end with another strong point. You should use simple language. You can include merits and demerits in writing depending upon the topic. Do not go away from the topic. Begin every sentence differently to avoid monotony. It should follow a sequence. You can write in 20 - 25 sentences.

3) SUMMARIZE THE SPEECH: Conclusion plays a very important role for a speech. For example. If you are telling about a problem, you should suggest a few solutions. At the end of your speech write  "Thank you".

Example 1: 
There is recent increase of violent behaviour of students is a matter of concern for all. The problem can be cured if students learn how to manage anger. Write a speech for the school assembly on this topic. 

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, Teachers, members of the staff and fellow students Today I am here to speak on the topic, “Violence Among Students”. You know how students are suffering from this problem.

Nowadays, school violence is one of the most serious problems in many countries all over the world. Violent incidents are high among middle school and high school students, they are unable to control their anger. On trivial issues, they become unpredictable.

Why students are behaving like this way? There are so many reasons.  It may be personality problems. Shyness, for instance, may cause a student to feel out of notice among his friends, thereby influencing him to be rebellious or try to get noticed by any means. Such behaviour may also result in bullying, kicking, destroying things and gang fights.

It may be because of violent media. The impact of violent television programs have deep impact on students. They want to be the center of attraction by showing their power, covering their deficit in other areas of skills. These are the students classically regarded as ‘Problem Students’.

Students should be counselled on anger-management, meditation, character development and other topics. It will help to deal with the psychological issues associated with school violence. Parents also play a vital role in the process of ending violence. Parents should gain a deep understanding of their children with patience and love. To sum up, parents and schools should come together to solve these problem. These solution may help to decrease school violence.

Example 2:

Write a Republic day speech for your school. 
Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers, members of the staff and fellow students. As you know, today we are here to celebrate Republic day of our country. Every year we celebrate Republic day on 26th January because Constitution of India came into force on this day in 1950 after the country gained independence from British rule for over 200 years.

This day remind us of freedom struggle and how our great freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. It is because of their struggle we are able to get all the rights namely, right to equality, right to freedom, educational rights, right to constitutional remedies. ‘Republic’ signifies the power, which is topmost. A resident living in the Republic country has the right to choose their political leaders to lead the nation. 

Everybody from school, college, and office celebrate and take a great interest during Republic Day. Resident greet one another and distribute sweets which brings the festive vibe. This day is all about understanding the sacrifices of our great leaders, our spirit and thoroughly celebrating our freedom.

I would like to wind up my speech followed by a promise today to solve this type of issues like unemployment, lack of literates, pollution, poverty, and so on so that we can make our country one of the best nations in the world.

Example 3: 
Write a speech on 'Save electricity'. 
Answer:

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers, members of the staff and my dear friends. Today I want to draw the attention of the wastage of electricity in our country and why it is important to save electricity. It is one of the greatest discoveries for mankind. Electricity has changed the way of living. In today’s time, we cannot think of doing any work without electricity.

But it is really important to save it, as it is a scarce and non-renewable resource. Non-renewable sources like fossil fuels will be depleted one day. The more electricity we use, more these resources will be consumed, it will get exhausted one day. Now a days there has been steadily increase in consumption of electricity.

In cities, there is lot of misuse of electricity, like unnecessary lightings during festival, unnecessary use of lights, fans, A.C, etc. There are many places in our country where electricity has not been reached.  Many people are not even able to use electricity due to the misuse of some people.

We  should take up the responsibility to switch off lights and fans when not in use. We should avoid artificial lights if natural light is available. Use energy saving light bulbs. Similarly, street lights must be switched on only when it is really dark.

In the end, I would like to say, it is always better to save electricity today so that the future generations can use it tomorrow.

Example 4: 

Write a speech about cruelty towards animals. 
Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers, members of the staff and my dear friends. Today I want to draw the attention about cruelty towards animals and it has reached an alarming level.

There are people who beat and kill dogs. Some even beat injured dogs. There are many animals like  bulls, camels, donkeys which pulls cart loaded with goods. The cart owners beats them mercilessly with his stick if it does walk properly. Most of these animals are skinny and have open wounds. Their bones can be easily seen. I feel very much angry when I see these animals. I would like the authorities to take strict action against these owners.

Some people kill rhinoceros for horns and for sport. Many tigers, lions and other wild animals are killed for their skin, meat and for fun. Tens of thousands of elephants are being killed every year for their ivory tusks and are used for making ornaments and jewellery.  These species  should be conserved otherwise these animals will   stops existing on earth. So let us pledge to save the animals from being ill treated today so that the future generations can see them tomorrow.

Example 5:

Write a speech about Importance of Teachers on Teacher's day. 

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers, members of the staff and fellow students. As you know, today we are here to celebrate Teacher's day. Every year we celebrate Republic day on 5th September to honour the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India's first Vice President  and to celebrate the importance of teachers in our lives. 

Teaching is the most persuasive job and a big responsibility in this world. Teachers are standing just next to the parents in the lead, hence they are truly an indispensable part of everyone’s life. They change, influence and promote healthy growth for an individual’s talent and capabilities. Teachers are the warehouse of knowledge who believe in passing on their knowledge to their students for building a better world in the future. The efforts and hard work of our teachers in making us advanced and responsible individuals. Teacher made us feel that everyone could be good at the subject. Their motivation and style of teaching inspired us to study well, to do our homework regularly, to take extra interest in the subject and to achieve good percentage.

I have no words to tell for our hard working teachers. Teachers have given their infinite contributions in changing our lives. Teachers are the designer of the society without which no society can progress. The celebrations of Teachers’ Day in school is definitely one of the best memories for many of us.

Example 6: 

Write a speech about the environment Crisis that is worsening the world.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and fellow students. As you know, today we are here to celebrate Environment day.  World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to remind people about the importance of nature, to encourage awareness and environmental protection. We must respect nature.

Today we see lot of buildings projects coming around. Jungles are cleared for big projects. Lot of industries have came up and it gives rise to various type of pollution. Even vehicles are also responsible for air pollution. Wastes are thrown in sea water hence water pollution has increased. Lands are degraded because of continuous use of fertilizers. Plastics are being used on very large scale around the globe. We can see plastic everywhere on land as well as in sea-water. 

Today we see the amount of pollution is on rise. If it goes like this way, there will be no trees, no mountains, no clean water and no clean air to breathe in future. It will give rise to  many health problems.

We have to take important steps to make people aware of environment problems. This can be done in many ways by planting trees and cleaning rivers and lakes, keeping way from plastics, conserving forests, managing waste effectively. So let us actively participate in the celebration as well as become an active agent in developing environmental safety measures.

Example 7: 

Write a speech about 'National Reading day' that will be celebrated in your school.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. As you know, today we are here to celebrate National Reading day. National Reading Day is celebrated on June 19 every year to honour the life and works of P.N. Panicker, a teacher from Kerala. He was the man behind the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’. 

Evidence suggests that children who read every day not only perform better in reading tests  but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of distant places and things. It keeps us connected with the outside world. It develops the mind. It improves the memory because we start to remember what we have read with relative ease. The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability.  Reading develops the creative side of people.

Hence it is rightly said that Books are our best friends. In the end, I would like to say, please develop the habit of reading.

Write a speech about 'Conservation of Water'.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. Today I would like to say a few words about the conservation of water which is the need of day. Water conservation is important because fresh clean water is a limited resource, as well as a costly one. Saving water likewise decreases the risk of natural disasters such as droughts. Conservation of water can ensure that supplies of fresh water will be available for everyone, today and tomorrow. 

Water is an essential asset for the nourishment of all life. Without water, there is no life. Water is essential for every food. It grows our fruits, vegetable, food crops and it is consumed by each livestock. We need to conserve it by every means. The most practical solution is reusing and recycling water. Rainwater harvesting is essentially a technique to store water and get it. More trees should be planted because it attract rain clouds. Even tree's root have the capacity to hold water. 

At personal level, we should try to conserve water. When washing hands, turn off the tap while applying soap. If you have a pet fish, re-use the water from the tank as a food to your houseplants. We should consider using a drip irrigation system in our garden. Taps should be turned off while brushing teeth and while applying dish-wash to dishes. We have to fix broken toilets and leaky taps. 

Finally, I will end my speech by saying Save Water. Conserve water, our life's on the brink!

Write a speech about 'Science day' that will be celebrated in your school.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. As you know, today we are here to celebrate Science day. It is celebrated on February 28 every year  to mark the invention of 'Raman Effect'. Raman Effect also known as Raman scattering was an important discovery in the field of scattering of light. I would like to say a few words about science. 

The basic objective of observation of National Science Day is to spread the message of importance of science and its application used in the daily life. Science is a boon and it makes our life easy and comfortable. It increases one's scientific knowledge, make us aware of the latest developments in science and technology. and has a positive effect on society. It’s primary objective is put an interest in science among students to perform new experiments.   Students all over the country demonstrate different science projects, and the national and state-level science institutions display their latest research.  

In the end, I would like to say that we should try to develop scientific attitude and be Number 1 in world in terms of science and technology.

Write a speech about 'How to live a happy life'.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I am here to tell you about how to live a happy life. God has given us such a wonderful life, we must enjoy it to the fullest. Here are some few ideas that I would like to share.

Our mind plays a big role in keeping us happy. First thing is that to find out what makes you feel energetic and happy. If you are feeling down then talk to someone  who is close to you. By simply talking about your problems to your close friends you will feel relieved. Don't compare yourself to others who are successful, it can make you unhappy. We should be focused in achieving our goal. Because if  we achieve a little goal, it can make us happy.  We must eat rich foods that can boost our happiness. We can also eat  chocolates, cakes or go for  movie with our friends that can increase our happiness. 

In the end, I would like to say that keep positive thinking, always be happy and cheerful.

Write a speech about 'Science and Spirituality go hand in hand'.

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I am here to tell you about how Science and Spirituality go hand in hand. Both Science and Spirituality use different techniques in their approach of seeking the truth. 

Both are bringing out different aspects of nature. Science observes everything that are there all around the universe. For collecting new facts, man uses intelligence and do experiment for collecting proof. Here man uses the sense organs to discover new facts. Spirituality is there within all human beings. Here man try to understand the nature of reality by experiencing it as a whole. Here Spirituality works beyond sense organs. Both are compliment of each other. Both are needed for smooth functioning of our lives. They certainly go hand in hand.

Finally, I will end my speech by saying science and spirituality will continue, as internally a human is always curious and looking for that boundless experience. We are all seeking for that boundless experience.

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I would like to share with you about our school. Our teachers have guided and moulded us. They inspired me throughout my school life to change into a healthy frame of mind. It is a place where I felt enthusiastic to learn new things. It has helped me in facing challenges fearlessly. 

My school has been temple for me because I have learned all the good habits which has moulded me into a good human. The principal of my school is a descent man and he is a man of letters. My teachers is the biggest treasure of my life because of the knowledge that they have given me, The teachers of my school are very kind and loving. They cleared all my doubts and provided friendly environment for learning. My teachers taught me to respect my elders and others. In my school, the libraries contain various types of books specially the science books and grammar books. My school playground is very big and it is a place where my body gained physical fitness. 

My school is very wonderful place. My heart is filled with deep gratitude for this wonderful place. Our school is one of the best schools that provide quality education and produce star for stability and prosperity of the nation. This is the one place that shall live in my memory forever.

Write a Independence day speech for your school.

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers, members of the staff and fellow students. As you know, today we are here to celebrate Independence day of our country. We should feel proud to be a part of an independent country that has freedom of speech, freedom to live life in our own way and freedom of occupation. We are not anybody's slave now. 

The first Prime Minister Of India was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He unfurled our tricolour flag at the Red fort. This day remind us of freedom struggle and how our great freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. India became independent after lot of hardship and sacrifices of the brave Indian freedom fighters. The entire nation celebrates this day with full spirit of nationalism. The Prime Minister of India unfurls the flag at Red fort followed by National Anthem. President addresses the nation on the eve of Independence day. All TV channels broadcasts patriotic songs and movies through the day. Schools and colleges arrange different cultural programs with patriotic songs and dance. It motivates us to bond together irrespective of which cast, community, culture, religion we belong to. 

To sum it up, independence from Britishers was not easy. It is because of sacrifice and hardships of our freedom fighters we are living in free country. So on this day we should remember our great leaders and sacrifices that they have made.

Write a speech about ' Farewell speech to all the students of Std. X.

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I am Anil Shetty from Std. X. It's a pleasure for me to speak here at this farewell party on behalf of my class. I would like to thank all my teachers and my friends for giving the opportunity to give speech. Today we are happy because we will be completing our school life and entering the college life. But it is also sad days for us because we will be leaving the school.

It's like a journey to get admission in this school as a kid who didn't knew anything and leaving it with good manners, good education and good friends. It is the hard work of our teachers that made us capable enough to take challenges of establishing ourselves in the vast world. I shall miss seeing all of you, who were so friendly and helpful and ever ready to help me whenever I needed. Nothing is enough to describe the contribution done by you for us. We all love you. Thank you to all the teachers. 

I am also thankful to all the staff people, peons, watchmen of my school as well. I truly appreciate for your contribution to our school. 

Now its time to say few words about my friends without whom I could not spend my days in school. Their cheerfulness, mischief, advice, devotion to studies have gifted me a wonderful and cheerful experience in school life so memorable.

Write a speech to be delivered to the students of Std. IX advising them how to study for Std. X. 

Answer: 

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I am Pranav Chauhan from Std. X. It is the end of the academic year and soon you will be stepping in Std. X. So I think that some of you must already be in tense. I would like to give you some tips.

My advise to you is study well and don't be afraid. Be relaxed and calm. You don't have to study for 10 to 12 hours everyday. Just study for 2 to 3 hours everyday. Make your own time table. For 2 hours study everyday and then do maths practice, science numerical and language grammar everyday for 1 hour in total. Because you cannot read and remember Maths. Do play for one hour everyday because physical exercise is very important to relax your body and mind. Whenever lesson is taught in school, read question answer that day only. Don't keep it pending. If there is doubt in any subject consult your teacher. Complete your studies by mid of January. Then in the month of February do revision of every subject till your SSC examination. Do not go outside to play. 

You will definitely achieve success. Always remember planning to work is important but working according to the plan is more important. With this few tips, I am sure that you will do well next year. God bless you and wish you best of luck.

Good Morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. Today I would like to say a few words about the environment crisis. The environment plays an important role in the growth of all the living things on the earth. 

In the past our environment was green and clean. The environment was in pretty good state, with pure air, fertile soils, thick forests and million of birds and animals. 

Now, man has impacted the ecosystem with concrete jungles. Billion of trees are cut down every year in the name of development. The rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to massive exploitation of natural resources. There is a massive amount of burning coals and fuels which resulted in pollution and global warming. Even plastic are used everywhere. Plastic waste causes lot of harm to animals and the environment. Toxic levels in the atmosphere have risen because of increasing vehicles and industries. Several human activities and high rate of population have created an adverse impact on the environment.

What kind of future will be there for us? Weather there will be mountains, fresh air, rivers and natural beauty ahead? Or we will be having desert wastelands with no trees, no fresh air resulting in many environmental problems. 

We have to make people aware of how dangerous the environment crisis is. We must plant more and more trees in our surroundings and open lands. We should walk or go by cycle for covering small distance instead of car or bike. We must manage waste effectively to keep our earth as natural as possible.

So let us join hands together to spread environmental awareness in our society. Let us work together for a greener future.
